The Gili Islands... a must!

The Gili Islands are a small group of 3 islands located just off the north- west coast of Lombok.  Originally an island used by traditional fishermen, the Gili Islands today host 5 star resort accommodation, professional dive operators and a string of bars for night entertainment. No mechanised transport is allowed on any of the 3 islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) so the options are... Horse drawn taxi cart On foot Bicycle It’s OK, the islands are quite small, and you can walk around the largest of the islands (Gili Trawangan) in just over an hour. Getting there from Lombok is an exhilarating experience too.  We highly suggest a private speedboat (for safety reasons) which can deliver you right to the beach where you want to go. For those that are on a real tight budget, you can use the local boat... we warn you though, it is slow (really slow) and you will often get wet, especially in the afternoons when the waves are a bit bigger. Gili Meno and Gili Air are much more laid back than Gili Trawangan, which is considered the “party island”, so it depends on what you are looking for. SUGGESTED ITINERARY  (Assuming your departure point is in the Senggigi area) Depart your accommodation: 8.30am Return to your accommodation:  5.00pm Travel north from Senggigi along the coast road, stopping at Malimbu Cliffs for view across the Bali Straights toward Bali and the Gili Islands which you can see in the distance Leave the vehicle at Bangsal Harbour Take a private speedboat charter across to Gili Trawangan Explore the island on foot or by horse drawn cart (called a Cidomo, and pronounced “Chi Doh Moh”) Fit-out with snorkelling equipment and join a professional snorkelling dive boat - this visits a minimum of two snorkelling spots (alternately you may wish to rent a local boat and snorkel at places of your own choice) Take lunch at a beach-front restaurant where you can admire the views Take your private speedboat back to Lombok Return to your accommodation in Senggigi, stopping for photo opportunities along the cliff-top views from the road at sunset Tour includes: All tour costs are included, such as entry fees and gratuities where applicable. English speaking tour guide will accompany your group at all times. All transport costs in a clean modern air-conditioned vehicle Private speedboat charter for all cross-water transfers Local snorkelling boat Snorkelling equipment hire for the day Bottled mineral water for each guest. Fresh local fruit as snacks Not included: Drinks other than bottled mineral water provided in-car, lunch.
